A new service is being launched by Gloucestershire County Council using latest digital technology at Gloucestershire Libraries, to help residents budget effectively.

The interactive shopping experience, called ‘Shop and Save’, is being launched at the digital learning space at Oakley in Cheltenham on Friday 27 September from 10am to 12pm and members of the public are welcome to attend.

It has been set up by the county council’s Multiply team in partnership with Gloucestershire Libraries. The Multiply programme is part of the adult education service and is designed to help adults in the county unlock their potential by providing access to free courses.

The ‘Shop and Save’ project aims to help support people with the cost of living using latest technology to provide an interactive shopping scene. An ‘Immersive Reality’ room provides a 3D, interactive digital experience where images are projected around the walls.

The ‘scene’ is an interactive shopping experience to help families and shoppers learn to budget for their shopping more effectively.

The innovative learning experience is a free resource for the whole community to access and aims to improve the confidence of adults with their everyday shopping and budgeting skills.

You are invited to explore a ‘real-life’ virtual shopping environment and practise your budgeting skills as you move through the aisles, giving you the opportunity to check prices and quantities as you collect items from your shopping list.

The county council’s aspiration is that ‘Shop and Save’ could be adopted by other regions and eventually launched throughout the country and worldwide at all Immersive Reality interactive learning spaces.

The launch event will be held at Oakley Interactive Space, Clyde Crescent, Oakley, Cheltenham, GL52 5QH, and further ‘Shop and Save’ sessions will continue to be arranged afterwards.

This is an excellent initiative which uses the latest digital technology to help people budget for their shopping. Given the cost pressures being faced by residents, I hope this will prove to be a useful tool in helping people to budget effectively. It is available for the whole community so I would encourage anyone interested in finding out more to go along to the launch event.
