Gloucestershire Libraries will be hosting a photography exhibition to celebrate the significance of reminiscence and to capture thoughts and memories that might otherwise be lost.

It is called ‘Carousel of Stories – Favourite Gloucestershire Places’ and will be held at Eastgate Shopping Centre in Gloucester on Saturday 23 March from 10am to 4pm, on the lower level by Boswells Café, with the nearest entrance being via Eastgate Street. Everyone is welcome to drop in.

There will be a public preview event on Friday 22 March, from 4pm to 5pm, where light refreshments will be provided. Please book at https://gloslibraries.uk/form/carousel-of-stories-public

The exhibition is part of the Ageing with Creativity programme of events in libraries funded by Arts Council England. It offers an insightful journey through time and memory with a collection of images and words, so viewers can reminisce as they engage with the photos.

The photography on display is by Gloucestershire artist Jade L A Fisher, with additional images provided by Gloucestershire Archives. The exhibition celebrates the cherished favourite places of Gloucestershire residents and it is being put on in collaboration with Gloucester and Cheltenham Residential Care Homes and Gloucester-based Barton and Tredworth Memory Café.

Consultant dementia nurse Steve Shelley-King will also be attending on the day to provide information and valuable insights about the Managing Memory Together initiative and the support that can be offered. The Managing Memory Together Team NHS Gloucestershire service has been delivering dementia information sessions in libraries across the county to raise awareness.

The exhibition will go on to tour libraries across the county and will also be accessible in digital version and feature on the library website Gloucestershire Libraries (gloslibraries.uk)

“This photography exhibition is a great way for people to share their thoughts and memories of some of their favourite places in the county, as part of the Ageing with Creativity programme. I would encourage everyone to view the exhibition to share their stories and to enjoy viewing the images on display.”
Cllr Dave Norman, cabinet member for libraries
“I’m thrilled to have worked with Gloucestershire Libraries on 'Carousel of Stories', a reminiscence photographic project working with individuals to capture their connections to Gloucestershire. The project celebrates the unique stories of some Gloucestershire residents and their favourite places past and present. I believe it’s important to document this by giving voice to these stories.”

“The ‘Carousel of Stories’ is a fantastic photography exhibition and one we were all too keen to get behind. We often speak to shoppers within the centre who are only more than happy to share their fond memories of Gloucester and the City Centre over the years, and we hope that anyone in the area on Saturday 23rd will take a little time out of their day to pop in and enjoy the exhibition.”
Jason Robinson, Senior Destination Manager for the Eastgate Shopping Centre
