Gloucestershire Libraries are seeking two people to join our newly established independent advisory board to support us with the delivery of a four-year cultural development plan as a new Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) which commenced in April 2023.

Job Description

Gloucestershire Libraries are looking for individuals with a passion for culture and libraries to join a newly established independent advisory board to oversee and provide independent assurance on the work of our National Portfolio Organisation to improve the cultural offer for residents of Gloucestershire.

We are looking for people with a diversity of perspective and expertise to ensure internal challenge and support. Ideally, we are looking for people with a specific interest or expertise in the following areas:

 

· Equality, diversity and inclusion

· Income generation and fundraising

· Local authority experience 

· Marketing/Communications

· Arts and culture 

 

The initial appointment term is two years, with the option of being appointed for a second term. This is a voluntary role with reasonable expenses reimbursed.

Board members must be at least 16 years of age and legally eligible, i.e. you must not be eligible for automatic disqualification by The Charity Commission

 

Time Commitment

The Board meets four times per year with additional full board meetings may be required for important decisions. Board members should endeavour to attend all board meetings during the year and are required to attend at least two of the scheduled meetings each financial year.

Sub-groups may be set up to focus on specific areas of development as required. In these instances, volunteers from the Advisory board members will be sought and special requests made of particular individuals where their skill set would be valuable.


The Role

· Work closely with the Chair and Head of Library Service to uphold Gloucestershire Libraries’ vision, mission and values.

· Work in line with the Terms of reference.

· Support the four-year cultural development ambition as an ambassador for Gloucestershire Libraries.

· Attend Board meetings, acting impartially, with integrity and in the best interests of Gloucestershire Libraries.

· Ensure that Gloucestershire Libraries complies with its governing document, and other relevant legislation/regulations.

· Participate in any sub-groups where your input would prove valuable.
